ADDING VIDEO TO WEBPAGES PART TWO
You’ve just uploaded a video to your own YouTube channel and it’s (hopefully!) getting hundreds of views. But the real reason you uploaded a video to the internet in the first place was you wanted it on your website… So how does that work?
Embedding videos is actually much less complicated than it seems like it should be. Once you have your video hosted, YouTube gives you all the tools you need to embed that video into your website wherever you like.
First, go to your YouTube channel and find the video you want to embed in the Video Manager page. Click on the Edit button for your video and go to the Advanced tab to make sure you have Enable Embedding ticked.
Next, click the View on Video Page button at the top – this will take you to the publicly viewable YouTube page on which your video is displayed. Underneath your video are a row of buttons labelled:
Click on the Share button then click on the Embed button that appears underneath, to expand the embedding options. I suggest you play around with these to find out what works best for you, however I strongly recommend that you untick Show suggested videos when the video ends – this will prevent any other videos being played in the video applet you are about to embed on your website. Don’t forget to also set what size you want the video to be!
When you’ve adjusted the settings to your liking, you’ll see at the top of the embedding options there is a box that contains a few lines of HTML code. Simply copy this code and paste it into the HTML code of your website. If you don’t have the knowledge to do this yourself, then contact the person who created the website for you and email them HTML code you just created – they will know what to do with it.
And that’s really all there is to it. Your YouTube video will now be displayed on your webpage for all to see, and your search engine ratings will sky-rocket as a result – congratulations!
It’s also worth keeping in mind that it’s possible to embed any video on any part of YouTube onto your website – provided the Embedding options for that video are enabled. So if you’ve had your video created by Take One and we’ve uploaded it to our own channel, and for whatever reason you really don’t want to make your own YouTube channel, you can embed the video onto your website from our channel in exactly the same way.
So, get out there and get uploading / embedding videos! They are a great way to improve the search engine ratings of your website and can add a really nice finishing touch to any company page!
