    We arrived at the location with only one sequence and a small piece of trailer dialogue left to shoot now. We went through the same pattern as the last two days with setting up the equipment and keying the lighting while also doing sound checks.

    The next day was another early start (I was over it by this point!) at Take One HQ. We gathered the equipment and rushed to the location just ahead of the school rush hour. We arrived and were greeted by a warm plate of food. Yeah I forgot to mention this part earlier! The staff at Chartridge Lodge kindly provided us with bacon sandwiches (they even had gluten free variants for the likes of myself!) which is a lovely feeling, especially on a cold late November morning!

    On the 30th of November Take One wrapped up a 3 day shoot which I was a lucky enough to be a part of. We were filming 5 segments of content for the “National Learning Trust”. The large majority of the filming required a well known individual within Education, who had also been a director at the NLT, to share his stories and methods of teaching to the camera with the intent of using this video content to help teachers get the best out of themselves and their students while teaching.

    The last 3 days have been a mixed bag of (positive!) emotions. These were feelings such as excitement, responsibility, pride and an eagerness to learn. One thing I can safely say is that I had an amazing experience and am hopefully looking forward to many more experiences like this as part of the Take One team!

    Who needs Video?

    To create an effective piece of video marketing you’ll need to focus on three key points that you want people to remember from your video. The attention span of the viewer is short, in fact it’s often been described as shorter than a gnat’s breath! This is particularly so when it’s just one person speaking to camera;so make sure there are no more than three points and that you have a strong call to action or practical breather slot. You’ll all have tried to watch e-learning material with a tutor, who is probably a great thought leader, talking straight at you on video; despite the content be really good, and possibly essential for your ongoing CPD, you’ll find your mind wandering and maybe having to go back several times to capture the bits you missed first, second or third time round as you try to get your accreditation. The brain needs to have something to keep its attention on the speaker, which means changing the shot and adding in supporting images or text to keep the mind/eye connection together. Do resist the temptation to put lots of text on the screen though, more than a few well chosen words will result in your viewing reading the text and not listening to you; it’s a careful balance.

    Sir Bruce Forsyth was unquestionably a TV legend. He died on the 18th of August aged 89, after 75 years in the television industry and having set a world record for the longest ever TV career. He was a familiar face on our TV screens until 2014, a great entertainer, he spanned the generations. There are few TV personalities who have been so consistently successful and appealing to all age groups – and whose career spanned the whole television era. We have lost a true showman and one of Britain’s ‘favourites’ on TV.

    How much does it cost to make a 60 second talking head video? Well that’s a tricky question because you see buying a creative service is not like buying a box of Rice Krispies off the shelf in a supermarket (other breakfast cereals are available!). Surprisingly, it’s also not necessarily the length of the video that determines the price, and often shorter pieces are more expensive than longer format videos.
