Using Video to Gain Profile
What happens when you put video onto your website?
Well, assuming you’ve got relevant content that has been optimised through You Tube or Google to take account of your target market, then in time you will find your site being found by potential customers who don’t yet know you, but do know they require your products or services. The statistics say that you stand a 53 times better chance of being found when you have video on your home page than when you don’t. Great news? Well yes, done well video will give your business a real edge over your competitors by giving you authority and positioning you as a trustworthy source in your industry. The knock on effect to that is that your reputation is built up, and with reputation comes trust, and sales.
However, the next thing that makes video on your website vital is that it keeps your visitor’s attention on you for longer; they stay on your site for longer and that means you get a better rating on Google searches. Mostly visitors to a website will leave within around 8 seconds, unless there is something good to keep them there; video has been shown to be a great way of making your site more interesting and keeping visitors with you for longer. It seems that people are demanding more than static sites these days, they look for the lure of the moving image!
So video is good, but don’t be fooled into thinking any old video will do! These days, it’s really easy to fall into the trap of thinking ‘Oh I can take some good footage with my iPhone or tablet, or even a reasonably priced domestic stills camera with video capabilities…. I’ll do it myself.’ No, no, that’s not a good idea, having cheap looking video that is obviously homemade is as a big a turn off as you could possibly imagine, very succinctly portraying your business in an unprofessional light. In fact, if you can’t afford to have your video done professionally it’s probably better not to do it at all, or at least to wait until you can get it done properly with a professional film crew who know how to set and light your video so that you are seen in the best possible way. Then your website will start to work harder for you and you can look forward to winning more business as viewers recognise you as experts in your field.
